I don't think it was discarded in the trash. I think it was left behind after the building collapsed. We've found it really close to Beaumont Tower.

So why was this discarded in the trash? It seems like it is in good shape... any potential theories based on what you know about the bracket and the campus in that period?

A shame that "the coop" is being torn down...it will make it that much more difficult to put Ruth's history into a physical place for the students of the future.

That's a fascinating website. It's definitely going to change how we look at the past. On our field school we were looking at a time frame when the artifacts were mostly glass and ceramic because those are some of the only materials that could withstand the test of time. Unfortunately that only gives us a narrow view and not the complete picture.

I was in London a few years ago and I saw a very interesting exhibit on plastics. It was talking about how the resistance to breaking down quickly is going to provide a whole new set of artifacts for future generations to look back at. This was just the tip of the iceberg for the exhibit. It might something you want to explore. http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/visitmuseum/galleries/plasticity.aspx

I think the Grandparent University is a great idea! When I was an undergrad, I had the opportunity to take one Anthropology class and it was one of my favorite classes at MSU. It was an experience I will never forget. There is so much happening at MSU that people should know about! I would think lots of alumni would take advantage of this experience! Thanks for all your hard work.

I think the main point that you have pointed out in your post is very important in any field. Perusing your passion does wonders to how you feel about your work and yourself.
