POSTPONED – CAMPUS ARCHAEOLOGY THROWBACK THURSDAY: 150 YEARS OF CAMPUS CUISINE DINNER EVENT

!!! This event will be postponed until Fall 2020. This event will be postponed until Fall 2020. The meal will still be served on March 19th for dinner, but the official event with Campus Archaeology displays and information will take place in the fall.

Thursday, March 19th, 5-8 pm, Brody Dining Hall, Michigan State University. Come to the Campus Archaeology Throwback Thursday: 150 years of Campus Cuisine meal event! Food items throughout Brody Square will be based on recipes and banquet menus from early Michigan State University campus history and regional historic cookbooks.

This event is open to the public! Meal cost for ages 2-9 is $5.75 plus tax. For those age 9 and older, dinner is $10.50 plus tax. For more information, visit eatatstate.com or contact MSU Culinary Services at info@eatatstate.com.

Apparitions & Archaeology: A Virtual Haunted Campus Tour

Take the Virtual Haunted Campus Tour

Join the MSU Campus Archaeology Program and the MSU Paranormal Society on Wednesday October 28th at 7 pm for our Virtual Apparitions & Archaeology Haunted Campus Tour! This year the event will be hosted on Facebook Live as the Campus Archaeology Program presents a live Q&A event where our fellows respond to community questions collected throughout the month of October. Stay tuned for information on how to submit questions.

We will kick off this event on October 1st with the release of a virtual “Choose Your Own Adventure”-style Apparitions & Archaeology Haunted Campus Tour that combines a tour of the sites we typically present at with in depth discussions of MSU’s historic campus, the people who helped to shape the school, and the results from some of CAP’s favorite archaeological investigations.

The virtual tour is free and kid-friendly!

#ThrowbackThursday cuisine at the MSU Eat at State ON-THE-GO Food Truck

November 7th, 2019 from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm at the MSU Eat at State ON-THE-GO Food Truck. You can find the truck located by the MSU Rock, near the Auditorium Building on Farm Lane. Try food from MSU’s past recreated from historical recipes and archaeological research! Hosted by the MSU Campus Archaeology Program and MSU Culinary Services.

CAMPUS ARCHAEOLOGY LAB OPEN HOUSE

November 12th, 2019 from 1 – 3 pm in Room 47, located in the basement of McDonel Hall at Michigan State University.

Visit the Campus Archaeology Program laboratory! You will have the chance to tour the lab, see artifacts that have been uncovered from across campus, and meet our undergraduate interns and graduate fellows!

APPARITIONS & ARCHAEOLOGY – A HAUNTED CAMPUS TOUR

Join the MSU Campus Archaeology Program and the MSU Paranormal Society on Tuesday October 29th at 7 pm for our annual Apparitions & Archaeology Haunted Campus Tour! Meet us at Beaumont Tower!

MSU GRANDPARENTS UNIVERSITY

We will be hosting a class titled History Beneath Our Feet: The Archaeology of MSU. The session will start with a brief presentation on archaeological discoveries on MSU’s campus. Participants will then clean and lean how to identify and date artifacts found at MSU. The class will take place on Thursday, June 27th at 9 am. If you are interested in signing yourself and your grandchild up for this class, please visit the registration website to sign up!

SUMMER 2019 CAMPUS ARCHAEOLOGY UNDERGRADUATE FIELD SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE

Join us on Saturday, June 1st from 10 am – 2 pm at our excavations on the corner of Shaw Lane and Hagadorn Road. Learn about what the students have been learning and finding this summer!

DIGGING INTO THE PAST: HASLETT BRANCH CADL

On Saturday, May 11, join us for “Digging into the Past” at the Haslett Branch of the Capital Area District Libraries from 2-3 pm. Learn how to identify artifacts, estimate how old an archaeological site is, who lived there, and more!

MSU SCIENCE FESTIVAL: EXPO DAY

April 6th, 2019. We will be participating in the MSU Science Fest where you will be able to screen for artifacts, play our stratigraphy game, participate in our #ColorCAP coloring page competition, and check out some artifacts we have uncovered on campus! BENNET WOODS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SCIENCE NIGHT

Thursday, January 24th, 6:30 pm. We will have a table full of artifacts, our stratigraphy game, and some of the tools we use for excavations.

This hour long walking tour highlights haunted archaeological sites on the northern portion of Michigan State University’s historic campus. We have added new stops and stories this year, and we can’t wait to share them with you! Appropriate for all ages and free!

MICHIGAN ARCHAEOLOGY DAY 

Come see us at Michigan Archaeology Day on Saturday October 13th from 10 am – 4 pm! The event takes place at Michigan History Center in Lansing, MI. We have a new activity and we will be bringing artifacts that we found on campus.
